Inspire 925 Enables a Sustainable Neighbourhood Through a Digital Network

The construction company Losinger Marazzi engaged Inspire 925 to help them succeed in reaching the objectives of the 2000 Watt Society regarding social sustainability. Previously a freight railway station, the 2000 Watt area of Erlenmatt West in Basel extends over 25’600 m2 and has been redeveloped into a residential area by Losinger-Marazzi since 2012. When in 2015 the first residents moved to Erlenmatt West, the area was beautifully designed but came without existing social structures. Everybody was new to Erlenmatt West. To ensure that a sustainable, friendly neighborhood would emerge and to prevent anonymity from spreading, Inspire 925 was asked to design and implement a community-building strategy around the digital solution Allthings. Upon moving in, every resident received not only the key to his new apartment, but also a unique login to Allthings’ “erlenapp”, an application that connects over 1000 neighbors in Erlenmatt West digitally. Through the Allthings’ platform Inspire 925 built up a network of highly-engaged residents, the “Erlenmatt West Ambassadors.” Supported by Inspire 925, this network meets monthly and organizes self-initiated community-building activities to improve the neighborhood life. Today the ambassador network is a recognized member of the 2000 Watt Society association and continues to lead the community-building efforts in Erlenmatt West.
